Our Approach: Distinguish the characteristics of each Horse Breed from all other breeds.

We wanted to make it easy to learn about, or write a report about any horse breed in our database, including Paint Horses, Quarter Horses, Arabian Horse, Appaloosa’s and many more. After researching several horse breeds, we discovered there was no standardized information common across horse breeds. Some horse registries/breeds include information on color. Others do not. Some offer general information on conformation, while other horse sources either do not make the information available or make it difficult to understand.

We decided to include information about the fundamentals and standardize it across all breeds in our Horse Breed database. This will aid your understanding of the differences in various breeds, although sometimes they are minute. Some of the more knowledgeable horsemen claim there aren’t many differences between one horse breed and another. But, you can make that decision for yourself. Our opinion is that frequently there re huge differences. Other times not so much because of the origin of the breed. One example is the Paint Horse Breed that developed as a result of the founding of the American Paint Horse Association. The foundation horses for their Association-Breed were rejected Quarter Horses that were rejected due to their color patterns. The result is that many Paint Horses look like Quarter Horses.

The following information is included for every horse breed added to the database:

A) Introduction; Points of interest

B) History: Where did these horses originate?

C) Foundation: What horses were bred to create the breed?

D) Type: Is this horse a standard type whose conformation is very close to others?

E) Color:“ What colors are acceptable to this horses’ breed registry and are common to the breed?

We began the process by including the five most popular horse breeds in the World:

The American Quarter Horse

The American Paint Horse

The Arabian Horse

The Thoroughbred Horse

The Appaloosa Horse

Eventually we plan to build the database with the goal of becoming one the largest single source of breeds online
